The Unbearable Ipad

Hello everyone. It has been a while, not because I have nothing to post, far from it I have been busy cooking but trying to post on the blog without my computer has gotten the better of me. Using the iPad is challenging, I am used to using a keypad, I really have a hard time with a touch screen and word press is different on an iPad. The good news is that I I’ll have a new computer soon, maybe even this week and I am hoping all my data is salvageable. When I pick up the computer I will visit the apple wizards and hopefully they will do their tech magic. Because posting on this thing stresses me out I will keep this short.

I am active on Instagram and yesterday I saw a video about nut milk. I’ve made it before but this one is amazing. I changed it a bit adding my own touches. Honestly I could give up dairy milk after drinking this. I didn’t follow a recipe but can approximate for you.

Nut milk

makes a little more than a quart

1 cup raw unsalted almonds

1/2 cup raw unsalted pecans

filtered water to soak and 5 cups to make the milk

1 heaping tbs cashew butter

pinch of sea salt (generous)

1-2 tbs maple syrup adjusting to your personal taste

2 tsp vanilla extract

pinch of cinnamon

Pour the almonds and pecans in a lidded bowl cover with filtered water, enough so that the nuts are submerged and there is an extra couple of inches. Put lid on and refrigerate overnight.

In the morning drain the nuts and pour into a powerful blender or food processor. Pour in 5 cups filtered water and the rest of the ingredients. Blend on high speed for 2-3 minutes. Pour into nut bag and drain over a bowl or large (8 cup) measuring cup. Squeeze the bag making sure you get all the milk. Adjust for sweetness and flavoring  pour into glass bottle and refrigerate. It’s also delicious in coffee! Dont throw away the nut meal, put it in a ziplock bag and freeze. I use it for granola.

I also took my banana bread recipe that is here on the blog and made it into marbled banana bread. I will post the recipe later it turned out great!

All looks super yummy- especially the nut milk. I am completely behind on my posts and have functioning computer (hope I didn’t jinx it) – in case that makes you feel any better!

Thank you so much they carry at Whole Foods, health food stores and I get also from local grocer fresh direct.

Oh, they still carry it at Whole Foods? I know they had stopped for a while (at least my local one did). Thanks! 🙂 and I hope your computer problems resolve, by the way! I love this blog.

It’s been a while since I got at Whole Foods they used to have a grinder that you add the nuts of your choice and making it yourself. I get it now at fresh direct. Thank you so much for your sweet comment.

Thank you for the recipe! In case you are interested, you can also sweeten nut milk using a date. The pictures are beautiful and it all looks delicious!

Yes actually the recipe I saw used a date but I was out. I actually prefer dates for that. Thank you so much.

That vegan nectarine and plum tart looks awesome! I’m not sure how people function without a desktop computer. I too could never use my iPad for any of my blog posts. Yet, I hear people can even manage it on their iPhones. That would be really difficult. Looking forward to your recipes 🙂

It all looks so wonderful! I’m crossing my fingers for you on the data. I can see you’ve been busy! I’ve tried almond milk before but wasn’t completely satisfied, so I think I’ll try out some of your hints! I am drooling over that tart and banana bread, though!!

Oh my gosh Suzanne! It all looks so amazing. I want to make your nut milk but what is a nut bag?? Can I sub it with a cheese cloth? Thanks for the recipe.

    June 26, 2017
    • apuginthekitchen's avatar

Yes you can use a sieve or cheesecloth but nut bags are the best none of the little pieces get through, they have a drawstring closure and are so easy to use. I struggled with cheesecloth and sieves and now I am so happy to have gotten the nutbag. They have on Amazon.

You’ve been busy, Suzanne! I use Almond milk now for cereal, but this homemade version looks tasty. I can’t wait for the Cantaloupe Popsicle recipe. You can get a keyboard for your iPad, but I’m sure you know that. Good luck with your computer.

Yes I really do. I am thinking about having a back up. I may get an inexpensive refurbished one from Apple that will be a back up just in case.❤️

Isn’t it terrible in a way how addicted we our to our electronics?!! I don’t use my phone much, but i don’t know what I’d do if my computer died. I actually buy one every 3 years just because when it happened to me once I lost so many photos, including all of the ones i took leading up to and including my daughter’s wedding. I swore i wouldn’t let it happen again. Plus they seem to act up after a couple of years no matter what. Great recipes – i can’t wait!

    June 28, 2017
    • apuginthekitchen's avatar

Yes I think that’s true, it’s almost foreign to me because on the laptop it’s much different!

      June 28, 2017
      • Elaine @ foodbod's avatar

And I’d find it totally alien on a laptop or PC!

It’s weird because that’s exactly what it is alien and uncomfortable. It’s all what you are accustomed to using!❤️

Completely! I even find it hard work just using the keyboard on our laptop nowadays – my iPad has made me lazy! And reliant!!

How fun to see your first tomato, Suzanne!
I think you’ve done a lovely job improvising to publish your posts — but believe me I get the stress part. The combination of Verizon Internet, Yahoo mail, and Chrome… well, they don’t play nicely together on my computer at all. Add to it, WordPress refusing to let me get any notifications at all, so I’m late visiting my favorite friends, like you. o_O
I’ve never had nut milk. Yours looks and sounds delicious. As do all the gorgeous sweets!
Happy Fourth of July weekend, my friend.

Thanks Julie, the milk is amazing hope you give a try!! I have an appt on Friday at the Genius Bar at Apple taking my new computer along with the old one. They told me if the hard drive is not fried they will be able to transfer my files🤞🏻🤞🏻the old one was almost 8 yrs old I needed a new one but I would have used until it died a natural death, guess I hurried the process with my coffee. Have a great holiday🇺🇸

Glad to hear you’re new computer’s on the way. I can imagine your frustration over being without one. I’m useless on a touch screen, too, and would go crazy without my laptop. We have a desktop, too, which my husband prefers.
Fabulous recipes, Suzanne, all absolutely mouthwatering. The banana bread and the nectarine and plum tart are making my mouth water. And although the nut milk is a new idea to me, I adore nuts so can imagine how good it tastes. A lovely ‘comeback’ post. Have a great time tomorrow! 🙂
