Pugs Take NYC, Block Party And No Time To Cook
I haven’t really been cooking, at least not anything noteworthy or blog worthy. Yesterday Percy and I went into Manhattan for a big pug event, Pugs Take NYC, hundreds and hundreds of pugs converged on the big apple for a 2 day event. I volunteer for Pug Squad SOS and we held an auction/raffle to benefit Pug Nation Of Los Angeles and specifically Bella who needs surgery and a wheelchair. The kick off of the event was at Central Park moving to Times Square and ending up on Wall Street for the auction/raffle. I donated baked goods to the auction, a gift basket filled with home baked goodies for humans and pugs. The auction/raffle was Halloween themed and pugs came in costume, there was a costume contest and there were celebrity pugs there, the Pugdashians were all decked out. It was so nice meeting our Instagram friends, so many were there and travelled from other cities to come to the event. I think I was more thrilled than Mr. Percy but thats ok, he was a good sport and indulged me.
I also just have to say how horrible it is that some sick criminal (terrorist?) decided to place a bomb in a dumpster on a crowded street in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood and 29 people were injured, thankfully no one died, cars were damaged, windows of nearby buildings were blown out. Police have surveillance video, hope they catch whoever did this, they found another bomb a few blocks away but thankfully were able to get it defused before it went off. A pipe bomb also exploded in New Jersey where a 5K charity race sponsored by the Marines was being run. What is wrong with people?
Percy does not like to be dressed or fussed with but I did manage to get a bow tie on him and he looked awfully cute. He literally layed on the step that faced the water (Brooklyn) and didn’t want to budge. When we finally got a car and headed back he kissed me almost the whole way home. He was one happy boy. He is a bit of a loner, curious at times but basically likes nothing more than laying on the bed or couch and resting, he’s a real homebody.
This coming Saturday, September 24th is our block association’s annual block party. It’s crunch time there is a lot to do coordinating everything. My days have been crazy busy, between work, the block party the auction (now past) hosting guests through air bnb and anything else that gets thrown in I just haven’t been cooking. I also still continue with the dietary changes and have been doing really well. I feel like I have to get into some sort of groove and post more regularly. I really don’t have too much on my plate today and am making crab cakes, will post the recipe sometime this week, they are really good. The weather here is starting to cool down and we get a sneak peek of the cool crisp Fall air from time to time. September and October in NYC can be a mixed bag weather wise. I so look forward to cooler temps, leaves changing color, apples, pumpkins and everything that Fall brings. Hoping that you all have a great week.
Percy looks so cute !!! I am sure he enjoyed his outing and just being with you. Hugs for Percy 🙂
Lynne, it was fun. Percy slept like a rock when we got home. Thank you so much.
I love the tie on Percy, he looks so handsome! Very unfortunate to hear what happened in Manhattan, it was on the news this morning. Looking forward to those fall recipes, you know I save them for later! We are expecting nice weather down here, and I hope less rain than the previous spring, it always slows down my job…Have a great week end Suzanne!
Thanks Viviana, yes it’s getting to where I am apprehensive when walking in the city. That should not be. It’s so funny how in the Southern Hemisphere it is exactly the opposite of here. We are still experiencing summer like weather in NYC, very warm. Last winter was almost the warmest on record. Working on some recipes but still sticking to my new eating regimen.
The pug pictures are just darling. They make me smile and I appreciate it. Are the trees on your street starting to change colors? Have a wonderful week and take good care of yourself. Hugs my friend.
Hi Gerlinde, I loved seeing all those pugs, I just wish Percy would have been happy, I would have stayed all day. No the tree’s are still as green as can be, it’s still quite warm here, my AC is on. You have a great week as well, hugs.
The bow-tie is very smart, much better than most of mine so I’m glad I don’t have competition from Percy in the waistcoat (vest) department. I’m so glad you were safe from what the crazies were doing with their bombs Suzanne,
xxx Unlimited Hugs xxx
Thanks David, yes we were in lower Manhattan the Financial District and the bombings occurred in Chelsea so we were a good distance from the mayhem. Thank you so much and I think you would look mighty handsome in a bow tie. Meg hugs my friend.
I think there is something about pugs – how darling, and of all the dog owners, they seem to be the most “mobilized” as I see pug events all over the place! I would have loved to see all those pugs in one place, the thought just makes me smile! I love all the good work you’re doing – no wonder you don’t have time to post, but you know we come just as much to “see” you as see your recipes. 🙂
Thanks Molie, isn’t it the truth, there is something about pugs, they are silly and quirky and lovable and make us happy. I had a great time, not so much for Percy.
Oh my the pressure cooking looking bomb-what????!!!! Terrible just gets me. Happy you enjoyed your day with the Pugs!!!! xo
Yes, those pressure cooker bombs scare the you know what out of me. Two of those and a pipe bomb in one day. All I can do is shake my head, the pugs were a joy!! Thanks Cheryl.
The pug cuteness overload was just the thing I needed for today, so thank you!!
Thanks Dave, I think my face hurt from all the smiling I did yesterday.
I am so glad you got to enjoy all that pug time in the midst of your crazy busy life! Don’t worry about when you post and about what, we’ll always be here for you for anything! Horrible about the bombs, such sickos in this world. Stay safe, hugs to Percy! xoxo
Total sicko’s I hope the police catch them soon. Thanks so much Kathryn. Things just happen to be so busy right now, I don’t have time to catch my breath.
I bet it was fun to see hundreds of Pugs all dressed in costume. Tell Percy he looks very handsome in a bow tie. I shared your post in hope that Bella gets all the donations needed for her wheelchair. Stay safe. These attacks on our cities and citizens must stop.
Thank you so much Sharon. Bella was surrendered to a Veterinary office in California with both front legs broken and they were never looked after so both of her front legs must be amputated and she has to be fitted with a wheelchair. I can’t even think about these things it makes me so upset. Thank you for sharing this I really appreciate it.
The attacks must stop, this is really so horrible.
How wonderful to go to a pug event, I would love that. That’s like a cuteness overdose.
Totally a cuteness overdose, thank you so much.
Suzanne, this post is such a nice counter to the bad things that happened in NYC and NJ. It’s such a relief to have something that makes one smile. And all those adorable pug pictures did exactly that. What a fun sight it must have been!
Looking forward to vicariously experiencing the crab cakes. Hmmm… If you get feeling creative, maybe you’ll want to come up with a way to use potatoes to bind them in stead of eggs… I tried it once, with a recipe, but it didn’t turn out for me. But I’m not the kitchen sorceress you are. 😀
Hugs to you and Percy.
Eggs are not necessary to bind, you can use flax seed egg (vegan option) flour can help to bind, potato doesn’t really work as a binding agent alone it needs help. I have flax seed and will grind it and make a flax seed egg and see how it does and let you know. Thank you so much Teagan.
LOL… like the potatoes, *I* need help. Haha. I wouldn’t know where to start with prepping the flax seed — I’d probably demolish the kitchen trying. But I did enjoy my virtual meal at your new post of them. 😀 At least there are no calories that way. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs.
Oh Teagan it’s so simple you can either buy flax seed meal or grind flax seed. The ratio is 1 tbs flax meal mixed with 3 tbs of water. Let it sit for 5 minutes and that is a sub for 1 egg. http://www.bobsredmill.com/recipes/how-to-make/flaxseed-meal-egg-replacer/
what adorable pictures! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Lynn, it was such a fun day.
It looks like it was
OMG that’s the cutest thing ever!!
I know rigth, I was enamored with all those cute pugs. Thanks Michelle.
Percy looks good but I can definitely relate to being a home body. Lots of adorable pugs in NYC
NYC was overrun with cuteness so many pugs, it was beyond adorable. Thanks so much Dyanna.
I’m happy to see that you got to go to #PugsTakeNYC 😊 but sad to hear and read the news of what happened in Chelsea.😟 I love seeing all the pictures from the event. I’m looking forward to next year to see where it’ll be next.😊 Stay safe and happy! 🐾❤
It’s was really a fun event. I wish next time they would do it in Later October when the temps are cooler although it wasn’t bad but pugs are so prone to heat related issues. Yes, what happened 3x in one day is very upsetting. Thankful no one was killed. Thank you so much.
I guess I’m fashionably late to the party 🎉🎉🎉
You’re right in time🍁💜
I’m so glad you are all safe…I agree, what is wrong with people????
Lovely to see Percy and his fellow pugs. Look after yourself in this busy time xx
The police know who the bomber is, they posted his picture and name and alerts went out on cell phones this morning. He planted 5 other bombs. Thanks Elaine. Thankful all are safe.
Oh my goodness, who was he??
An Afghan Muslim living in New Jersey. This whole thing is just terrible. Their fear is that he is on the run and has been churning out bombs. The whole city is on heightened alert.
Oh my goodness, how absolutely adorable all those pugs look! I was so disheartened to hear about the explosives in NYC and New Jersey. Sometimes I find myself afraid to listen to the news these days since there has been so much tragedy. Hope that you are enjoying the cooler temperatures and beginnings of autumn Suzanne!
I hate listening to the news, today I took Percy out and came back and heard alerts coming in on my phone about the terrorist that placed the bombs, they identified him and found 5 more bombs. Can’t really escape it. Thank you so much Heather, yes it’s starting to get a bit cooler here, can’t wait for the cool weather to be consistent. Happy Autumn and thank you again.
Lovely – hugs for Percy kisses – Toutes mes pensées de réconfort pour les nouvelles épreuves, hélas ! Prayers – Bises de france – votre amie ( better with an – e because feminine – your french is very very good ) 🙂
Thank you France, I learned that I was probably phrasing incorrectly and could have written something that was an insult in French and was horrified. It has been so many years since I have spoken French and I am so glad to be able to try out my not very good command of such a beautiful language and that you are very kind and understanding. Your English is so much better than my French and I admire that greatly. Je pense que je vais continuer á essayer! Merci, mon cher ami France.
Percy is looking so handsome! The cooler weather is something even I’m looking forward to 🙂 And yes, it’s so scary with what happened here over the weekend! I have no words.
Thank you so much. He is a handsome boy, and like me is looking forward to cooler weather which seems to be on the horizen. Just need to get through tomorrow and the next day.
Oh my!! So much cuteness.. my heart is bursting.
I was in pug heaven on Saturday, I wish Percy had been as happy and excited as I was I would have stayed longer. Thanks so much Meaghan.
Haha I image my pug Tom would have shared Percy’s feelings!!
They could have hung out and commiserated about how their hoomans drag them to those social gatherings when all they want to do is sleep.
Percy is so darn adorable, love the bow-tie. The pug event is such a wonderful thing, sounds like there was quite the turn-out.
I am saddened that there are people out there that want to hurt others, what kind of human does that? anyway, sounds like they caught him thank goodness.
There were hundreds upon hundreds of pugs there it was so amazing. We had a very successful auction and raised almost $5,000. It was a great success. Yes, they caught first 5 of the people involved then they gave the police info on how to find the person responsible and he is in custody right now. It’s so scary. Thanks so much Cheri.
You were in heaven, Suzanne! Pug heaven that is, I’m sure! I totally agree about the craziness of people setting of bombs to injure innocent lives! We will never understand it. So glad they did find the jerk that did it!
Thanks Christina, I wish Percy had been as excited as me I would have stayed all day. Being around other pug obessed people like me was fun. I am so glad that got that, well I won’t say what I am thinking but good thing he is behind bars.
Good to hear, that you had a good time with joy Suzanne. It is terrible with all the attacks, but we may not be so scared, as the terrorists are wishing us to be. Then they win…
I agree with your dog, clothe are not for dogs, only for humans, unless it is to keep warm in the winter for few dogs, who are not able to stay warm by themselves.
Thanks Irene, yes Percy will agree with you but he is a sweet boy and indulges my silliness from time to time.
What a lovely post! It sounds like you had a lovely time even if Mr Percy might have loved going home even more 🙂
The bomb was awful 😦 take care and have a great week!
It was great Petra, a big success we raised a lot of money for the rescue group and everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks so much.
I seriously just stopped what I was doing and called over my studio friends to look at all these pictures! SO MUCH CUTENESS!!!!
LOL, isn’t it something. So many cute pugs, imagine hundreds of them all in one place. It was a hoot. Thanks so much.
Sweet Mr Percy… love that he kissed you the whole way home, to say “thanks for getting me out of there”. 😊 I can totally relate to his homebodyness… what a cutie! Looked like a lot of fun though Suzanne. Enjoy the block party this weekend! xx
I am actually a real homebody as well. I prefer to be at home rather than go out. He was so happy to be in the car going home it was adorable. I wondered if he was worried I would leave him, something was up, he was not himself and was very frightened. Maybe he picked up on something. I am starting to bake on Thursday for the block party, my neighbors are all helping out and the planning is going like clockwork. Thanks so much Margot.
What a cool event and I love the pics Suzanne! I agree, what is wrong with some people? I am glad nobody was killed.
Hi Suzanne– first of all glad to hear the little note at the end saying the weather is finally getting brisk! hooray! And I would have loved to see all those pugs far and wide!! I’ll bet it was a whole lot of chaotic fun! — and hope your block party goes well, a great time getting the community together. You are amazing– all you do!! Take care friend. hugs hugs.
I’m glad you enjoyed your event and Percy enjoyed his trip home. 🙂 The pictures are so cute.
