New Kitchen Toy And Percy Update

From Williams Sonoma Site

From Williams Sonoma Site

In an effort to cut carbs and eat more healthfully I invested in a spiralizer attachment for my Kitchen Aid. I totally love it, it’s easy to use and you actually can sort of fool yourself into thinking you are eating pasta (well sort of) anyway it is wonderful and must say I love zucchini pasta. Broke in my new gadget tonight with a zucchini and made this:

zucchini pasta

zucchini pasta with roasted tomatoes and parmigiana

Now for Mr. Percy, he is doing fantastic. He really seems to be happy here, I have totally spoiled him (as it should be). He will only rarely eat dog food now because I cook for him, he sleeps on the bed with me at night. He has made friends with my neighbors and their dogs, he adores the cats that I feed in the backyard and last Saturday I took him to Ft Greene Park, quite a long walk for the little guy at almost 11 years young so we brought Nando’s stroller if he got tired. He made it all the way to the park, had a glorious time playing with other dogs and getting lots of love from strangers,  but he got a ride most of the way back home. He is a love, so sweet, so well behaved and a real joy.

  1. I am so happy you got your spiralizer I love mine (same type fits on Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixer) I use it often. Your maiden dish looks and sounds marvelous! Yay my friend. As for that sweet Pug “Mr. Percy” what a joy to know he is with you. You are a wonderful, giving human being I am happy to know and call my friend! xo Cheryl.

    February 25, 2016
    • Thank you so much. I really enjoyed my maiden dish and can’t wait to experiment with more. Percy is a love bug and I am so happy he is here❤️💕

      February 25, 2016
      • We made Apple Zoodles (a dessert) last week with the spiralizer (I’ll be posting soon) such fun! Enjoy yours, I know you will. Hugs to that sweet “Mr. Percy” from me! Cheryl

        February 25, 2016
  2. I have never used a spiraliser before … might give it a try as your zucchini pasta looks very good. As does Mr. Percy.

    February 25, 2016
    • Thank you, love the spiralizer I felt like I was eating a big bowl of pasta without the guilt!!

      February 25, 2016
  3. Suzanne! This dish is beautiful, and how amazing that you are cooking for Percy. What do you make? He was always such a good eater- except he hated celery and undressed lettuce. 🙂 I love the stroller! xo, Em

    • I am afraid I created a monster, LOL. I make him ground chicken with egg, oats, pumpkin and spinach. Bake it so it’s like a loaf and cut into cubes. I put it in his bowl with some kibble but he spits out the kibble. I also give him a little cheese, yogurt, fruit . I made it for him in the day he arrived and after he ate it he stopped eating his dog food. I also make him bone broth that he drinks.

      February 25, 2016
      • How totally fabulous. Of course he spits out the kibble. LOL. 🙂

        February 25, 2016
  4. Dear Suzanne, what a fun post. I smiled the entire time. (After the week I’ve had so far, that’s an accomplishment, my friend! 😀 ) The “fake pasta” looks delicious. What a cool gadget.
The Percy update was delightful. And i’ve got to tell you… I love that your shoes match his coat thing. And those leggings are to die for! Mega hugs!

    February 25, 2016
    • I am sorry you are had a bad week. I am glad this brought a smile to your face. I am the same way every Saturday when I read your posts💕💕

      February 25, 2016
  5. Love the dish — love the pup even more! Percy is such a cutie patootie! We are kept by a pekinese/terrier mix in our house. He adopted us when we met him at an adopt-a-shelter pet event 4 years ago. Quite the stubborn character!

    February 25, 2016
    • How wonderful that you were adopted by your sweet doggie. Thank you so much, they bring so much joy to our lives.

      February 25, 2016

Suzanne — I had not idea that there is a spiralizer attachment for Kitchen Aid! I now must have one like RIGHT NOW! I am thrilled that Percy is loving his new home. Sending you both lots of hugs.

    February 25, 2016
    • It’s wonderful does everything including peeling. I love using it!! Thanks so much.

  8. Well, where have I been? I’ve never heard of a spiralizer. I’ll have to get one now. Your dish looks yummy. Love the doggie, too.

    February 25, 2016
    • I heard they are all the rage, great for low carb, paleo and general healthy eating, It is fun and must say I really liked the zucchini pasta.

      February 25, 2016
  9. Percy is getting five-star treatment for sure and he looks very happy about it. I’m still not sold on the spiraliser idea – I’ll be interested to hear how you get on with yours… Hugo and Java send their love to you and Percy.

    February 25, 2016
    • He is, people have always called my home the doggie spa. I am afraid I spoil and pamper the little sweethearts. I will do some more experimenting with my new gadget but have to say I totally enjoyed the zucchini pasta, it was delicious and guilt free eating and so easy to make. Hugs back to Hugo and Java.

      February 25, 2016
  10. I got a plastic spiralizer a few months ago, tried it once on kohlrabi and then totally forgot about it. Partly hubby’s fault. He’s always putting away my stuff. If I don’t see it, I won’t remember it. I’m going to have to try it on zucchini. Everybody has been singing praises on zucchini ghetti! And Mr Percy is so sweet!! I think I’m in love!! He’s so adorable sitting there in his stroller!! ❤️❤️❤️

    February 25, 2016
    • Thanks Angie, the spiralizer is pretty cool, must say. Really love that it peels especially when I make apple pie it will come in handy and of course curly fries and low carb veggie pasta is fantastic. Mr. Percy is such a little doll. He is such a joy to have.

      February 25, 2016
  11. Ooh that spiralizer looks awesome. I should think of getting one too 🙂 And the pasta looks amazing. Btw, I’m totally digging your leggings.. they are adorable! 😀

    February 25, 2016
    • The pasta was great. I was telling a friend it would be good mixed with regular pasta as well, cut the carbs in half. Thanks so much.

      February 25, 2016
  12. Loving your new kitchen toy, Suzanne!! I was wondering if it’s worth investing in, or will it just end up like one of those things that is only lying around. Your zucchini pasta looks really nice, and healthy for sure. Percy’s pic are so adorable, glad you two are having a nice time 🙂

    February 25, 2016
    • Well Freda only time will tell, I have so many kitchen gagets that just collect dust now. I love this one at least right now. I feel like I will continue to use it because it does many other things besides the pasta. the Peeling part really makes me happy. Thanks so much.

      February 25, 2016
  13. I love a new kitchen gadget. However I have never heard of a Spiralizer before. Unfortunately I don’t have a Kitchen Aid ( well not yet anyway) but this gadget does sound interesting, especially if it helps to make yummy meals like courgette pasta.

    February 25, 2016
    • You don’t need a Kitchen Aid to spiralize, there are actual spiralizers that you can buy, You can use it for potatoes, apples, carrots, all sorts of vegetables and fruits. I have been reading your post about the venison meatballs and you have me in stitches. Bambi, yikes. LOL.

      February 25, 2016
      • I had never actually heard of a spiralizer before, so that’s good to know. I’m so glad the meatball post made you laugh, sometimes I think its only me that laughs at my weird sense of humour!

        February 25, 2016
  14. I haven’t heard about one of these gadgets. Must look into them. Your dish looks yummy. 😀
Mr. Percy is cute as well as adorable.

    February 25, 2016
    • Thank you so much, the spiralizer is a great invention and the zucchini pasta was wonderful and so is Mr. Percy😄

      February 25, 2016
  15. Love the dish. Love the pup😍

    February 25, 2016
  16. My spiralizer is my favorite kitchen gadget. In fact I bought two – one for the house, and one for the condo in Tahoe. That’s how much I use it. And love Mr. Percy! Congrats on the new addition to your home and heart 🙂

    February 25, 2016
    • I only just started and still have to explore all the other things it does besides make vegetable pasta. Thanks so much Susan.

      February 25, 2016
  17. Love your new spiralizer. The dish looks fantastic, and yes aren’t we all trying to cut back on the carbs? I have a plastic one, but it can only do zucchini and carrots/cucumber. But I have used it quite a bit and it does not take up too much room. Since we’ve downsized, I’ve tried to stay away from larger gadgets, but I’ll have to say yours seems quite versatile. Just look at Mr. Percy looking all regal in his stroller, tres cute!

    February 25, 2016
    • Thanks Loretta, what I like about this one is it’s an attachment to the mixer and is small enough to tuck into a drawer, I also really like the stainless steel construction. It looks like it will do a lot but I still need to explore all the ways to use it. Thanks so much and Mr. Percy thanks you for saying he looks regal, LOL.

      February 25, 2016
  18. Looks great. After serious health problems during pregnancy and after, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. I didn’t go the processed glutenfree route, but that natural one. Veggies, oils, cheese, fish, fruit- all the best of Europe. This dish embodies that. Now, I just need an attachment – and your cute outfit – and a Percy. 🙂

    February 25, 2016
    • Oh no, I’m sorry you have health problems. I constantly battle weight, I am up and down like a yo yo. I really enjoyed the zucchni pasta and honestly didn’t feel deprived. Thank you so much.

      February 25, 2016
  19. So happy for you and Percy…he certainly looks adorable in the stroller. 🙂 As for that spiralizer, I have it on my list of wants…I didn’t even know until recently that KitchenAid made one. In your opinion, is it worth the cost??

    February 25, 2016
    • Well the kitchen aid is bit more expensive than a regular spiralizer but I like that it’s small, fits in a drawer and that it’s stainless steel not plastic. So for me it was worth the extra expense because I feel like it is something that will last and if I use it a lot which I hope to it will pay for itself eventually. I got it at Williams Sonoma and it was $99 as opposed to $59 for the other one I was looking at.Shipping also is free so that helps.

      February 25, 2016
      • Considering the plastic one I bought can’t spiralize anything harder than a zucchini, I’m more than willing to spend a bit more a good one. Thank you for your input!

        February 25, 2016
      • On top of it all Kitchen Aid is a quality product. I feel good about the purchase.

        February 25, 2016
  20. Oh, Suzanne, I forgot to remind you but you’ll be co-hosting tomorrow FF108, with Zeba. I hope you didn’t forget 😄

    February 25, 2016
  21. The Zucchini pasta looks yummy and Percy oh so adorable. His happy little face makes me smile.

    February 25, 2016
    • Me too Dyanna, thank you so much. So glad that Percy is doing so well.

      February 25, 2016
  22. It looks like you both got great new toys that you enjoy. Your almost pasta looks gorgeous, and Mr. Percy is looking mighty fine.

    February 25, 2016
  23. Suzanne, can I be your pug please! You have such a big heart. I think of you whenever I see a pug.
I love the looks of your zucchini pasta!
    Have. a great weekend

    February 25, 2016
    • I am the crazy pug lady for sure. Thank you Gerlinde, you come over anytime at all. Have a wonderful weekend as well and thank you.

      February 25, 2016
  24. Mr. Percy is so cute! Your zucchini paste looks delicious!

    February 25, 2016
  25. So happy you are both enjoying life together! Love the pic of Percy in the stroller! Too cute!

    February 25, 2016
    • Thank you, when I first put him in the stroller he wasn’t quite sure what to make of it and wanted out but once he figured out he had a good view and got where we needed to go without doing anything while laying on a comfy bed he settled right in and enjoyed the ride.

      February 26, 2016
  26. I don’t have a spiralizer, as I tend to buy such things and then rarely use them, but the dish you’ve made looks delicious.
Percy looks like a very happy dog! 🙂

    February 26, 2016
    • I tend to do the same or sort of I will use it like crazy for a while then tire of it and put it away. I hope with the summer and lots of good produce I use it a lot. Thanks so much.

      February 26, 2016
  27. So cute your dog Percy!! About the spiralizer, I’ve heard of it, but still haven’t gotten one. You are the third person to get one and say the zucchini pasta is great, so I might get one now!

    February 26, 2016
    • It’s a good investment, I think I will get a lot of use out of it and I have to say I really enjoyed the zucchini noodles. Thanks Dave.

      February 26, 2016

The pasta dish looks great m. and I think the spiralizer is a must have have for me. However, the winner is ……. the very gorgeous Mr Percy … big hugs little fella

    February 26, 2016
    • Thanks Heather, the spiralizer is terrific but you are so right Mr. Percy is the clear winner here.

      February 26, 2016
  29. Little Percy 😍😍 he does look so happy, and why shouldn’t he? It sounds like he’s leading a great life with you xx

    February 26, 2016
  30. Percy is so danged cute! Spoil him away, he deserves at that age! I still haven’t bought a spiralizer but I don’t have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer so am looking at some stand alones….

    February 26, 2016
    • I imagine the stand alones are good also, they do the job and thats what matters. Thanks so much Kathryn.

      February 26, 2016
  31. Your zucchini pasta looks amazing Suzanne. Spiralizer looks an awesome tool to make healthy food…I’m sure Percy is a very happy dog! 🙂

    February 26, 2016
  32. Your zucchini pasta looks DELICIOUS! Yum. I love zucchini noodles but at the moment I just make them ‘pappardelle’ style by using a vegetable peeler. I’d like to get a spiralizer eventually. Glad Mr Percy is doing well! He’s adorable, so nice to see he’s happily transitioned into the family! xx

    February 26, 2016
    • Thanks Laura, yes thats what I used to do make the pappardelle with my peeler, it works great. Percy has transitioned quite well, its such a relief.

      February 26, 2016
  33. Oooh, that looks lovely! Love the plate too, so pretty! ^_^ Percy looks like a happy chappy!

    February 26, 2016
  34. Oh my, firstly, hello Percy! Think I may have missed a post! He is totes adorable! I have been hemming and hawing about getting a spiralizer but this looks tops. I may be convinced! 😁

    February 26, 2016
    • Hi Lisa, yes the Kitchen Aid spiralizer is great, well made and does more than just spiralizing zucchini which I love. Can’t wait to make curly sweet potato fries.

      February 26, 2016

Happy Friday! Thanks for sharing the secret for squash pasta. I tried making it once w a mandolin. Complete disaster 🙂 Why is it that Healthy eating makes the most beautiful dishes!

    February 26, 2016
    • Natures bounty is so beautiful, the colors and flavors of fresh produce is so wonderful. You almost have to do nothing to produce a beautiful and satisfying dish. Thank you so much Allison.

      February 26, 2016
  36. Oh Suzanne, I am so happy for the update on Percy 🙂 I have been wondering how he has been doing, and by the sounds of it, he is settled, loves you to bits and is loving his life. What a gorgeous boy he is, I am so pleased you have him, you have a heart of gold.
The spiralizer will become your best kitchen friend. I love mine, and also did a zucchini noodles dinner last night.
Hugs to Percy boy 🙂 and have a lovely and happy weekend 🙂

    February 26, 2016
    • Thank you so much Lynne, Percy is such a sweet boy, I can’t get over how well behaved he is, just a real angel. How funny you had zucchini noodles as well, they are delicious. I can’t wait to start experimenting with other vegetables and fruits with my new toy.

      February 26, 2016
  37. I bought a Kitchen-Aid spiralizer a couple months ago and love it! I have a plastic one too and there is no comparison. Cute pictures of Percy! Thanks for co-hosting this week 🙂

    February 26, 2016
    • Thanks so much Judi, I wondered how they would compare, good to know I made the right choice.

      February 26, 2016
      • I am not happy with the potato peeler – that funny gadget. The spiralizer makes great potatoes but peeling them is another matter. Let me know if you have any success with peeling them.

        February 26, 2016
      • I can see the peeler not working well unless the potato or apple or whatever has a perfectly even surface. I will try it and see. I guess even if it misses a few spots it’s better than having to peel a whole bunch of potatoes. Will let you know.

        February 26, 2016
  38. So glad to hear that Percy is settling in well Suzanne! I received a Kitchen-Aid spiralizer for Christmas and I’ve had fun using it the past couple months. The only problem that I run into with the zucchini noodles is that my sauce always gets watery by the time I’m done. I’ve been trying to come up with a fix for this otherwise I love it!

    February 26, 2016
    • When I heated the zucchini noodles in the pan they gave off some water which was ok since I used oven roasted tomatoes for the sauce, the little bit of water from the zucchini actually worked well with the tomatoes to make it more like a sauce. I did think about that though and will probably either use 2 pans or ook the zucchin, drain and then add the sauce to finish. I am very happy with my purchase. Thank you Heather.

      February 26, 2016
  39. Suzanne I have been thinking g of buying one of those toys..how do you rate it or recommend it for a newbie to this?
That is so wonderful to see you and Percy bonding so well! You are the best!❤️

    February 26, 2016
    • I have only used it once but based on my one meal I give it a big thumbs up. It seems to be something I will use often and it’s very sturdy and easy to use. I can’t wait to do some more meals using it.

How wonderful you two found each other. Bernie said she tried to reach you last Saturday and she came back home on Sunday. Maddie is doing great and seems to be adjusting well to her new life. Can’t wait to come to visit.
    Love to all!
    Maria

    February 26, 2016
    • Really, I didn’t see any phone calls or text messages come in from Bernie. I wondered what happened. I was out most of the day on Saturday. I am sorry I didn’t get to see her. So glad that Maddie is doing well and adjusting. She can reach out to me if she needs anything at all. Thanks so much.

      February 26, 2016
  41. Love your new gadget. I have a hand held one; thank you for reminding me to use it. Percy is adorable! He looks very content!

    February 26, 2016
    • Thanks Michelle. I love the idea of using vegetables as pasta or noodles, it was really nice having zucchini noodles last night. Percy is a doll.

      February 26, 2016
  42. I’m happy Percy is settling in so well! I’ve wanted to try vegetable spaghetti for a while, I’ll try zucchini first 🙂

    February 26, 2016
    • I don’t know what other vegetable I would make spaghetti with other than a zucchini, hmmm… I bought a spiralizer cookbook and see some beautiful salads that I want to try. Thanks so much Andrea.

      February 26, 2016
      • I think we can buy butternut squash spaghetti here – ready made, along with zucchini – it’s only recently appeared in the shops.

        February 27, 2016
      • I have never seen vegetable pasta in the stores. Thats really nice Butternut squaash is one I never thought of I have to try that. Thank you.

        February 27, 2016
  43. How fun! I love new gadgets! Your “pasta” looks delicious. And the pug stroller is adorable.

    February 26, 2016
    • Thanks Sadie, the stroller was necessary for Nando he was so sick and couldn’t walk. For Percy who is a senior but healthy it will be nice just to give him a little break when walking long distances.

      February 26, 2016
  44. How wonderful that Percy has settled so nicely but who wouldn’t with that wonderful treatment. I’ve yet to try the spiralizer but I’m rather tempted.

    February 26, 2016
    • He has Karen, I am so glad because that was my biggest concern that he would have a hard time adapting after 10 years in the same home. He is pretty amazing and so far is very happy and well adjusted. Thanks so much.

      February 26, 2016
  45. The dish looks wonderful as usual. Percy seems very happy in his new city and his new home. If I didn’t know better I would have guessed from the photos that he’s always been your dog.

    February 26, 2016
    • Thanks Sharon, Percy fit in immediately, it was like he has always been here. There was nothing ackward or stressful about it. It was meant to be.

      February 26, 2016
  46. I love the idea of that attachment and might have to get one! What a doll Percy is! You are spoiling him for sure! xxx

    February 26, 2016
    • It’s a great attachment Lynn, does the job nicely and is small enough to fit in a drawer. Thank you so much,

      February 26, 2016
      • I really would love to try it! less carbs and your dish looks so good!

        February 26, 2016
  47. The dog looks great & that spiralizer is so” in” right now.

    February 27, 2016
  48. Mr Percy is so, so lucky to have found a home with you. You are so good to make home-cooked meals for him. 😉

    February 27, 2016
    • Thank you, I have always cooked for my dogs. Percy was accustomed to eating kibble and I fully intended to keep him on it with a little home cooked food to supplement but it didn’t turn out that way, he rejects the kibble now in favor of the other food that I make. Oh well, I wanted him to eat the crunchy food for his teeth but the vet said that dogs don’t really chew anyway. Thank you so much.

      February 27, 2016
  49. I love that you’re cooking for Percy, Suzanne! What a lucky pup. I need to get spiralizers in the store…I’ve had many customers asking about them and they seem like a terrific tool. Thank you for the inspiration!

    February 27, 2016
    • Hi Hannah, so good to see you. I am so thrilled for you and your store, I wish I lived close I would be a constant customer. I love my spiralizer, used it again tonight. I am eating more vegetables and they are gently cooked so I feel like I am eating better. I really like it and can understand why your customers are asking for it. Hope you are all well.

      February 27, 2016
  50. He definitely looks happy! Glad you finally got a spiralizer. If you never use it for anything else than the “zoodles” as I’m told they’re called, you will still love it and use it way more often than you might have thought!!!

    February 27, 2016
    • Thanks Mimi, yes zucchini noodles or zoodles as they are called I think are definitely something I will make often, tonight I used yellow and green zucchini. I know I will use it for potatoes also but not sure what else. Maybe salad, those big carrots and beets.

      February 27, 2016
      • I tried a potato once and the rings all broke. I’m going to try parboiling the potato first next time.

        February 28, 2016
      • I am going to try a potato today. Sweet potato and regular will report back and let you know how not goes. Have to figure out which blade to use .

        February 28, 2016
      • Oh maybe that’s what I did wrong. How many blades came with your attachment?

        February 28, 2016
      • I got 5 blades

        February 28, 2016
  51. Oh that spiralizer looks awesome. ..and not to forget Percy looks so so so so adorable …. love him… passing loads of hugs and kisses to him. ..

    February 27, 2016
    • Awww thanks so much Chitra. Percy is adorable. I am really enjoying the spiralizer, I need to graduate from squash and try something else now. I think tomorrow will be potatoes.

      February 27, 2016
  52. We’ve given up pasta over here too! What a great idea! And Percy is too cute.

    February 27, 2016
    • Thank you. No more pasta for me the vegetable noodles are great!!

      February 27, 2016
  53. So glad to see you with Percy! What a lucky pup and lucky you. Love that you cook for him; just as it should be. He does hot pink as well as my little Buddy boy does light pink.

    February 28, 2016
    • Thank you Stacey and yay for Buddy in pink as well. I am constantly getting comments when we are out, how cute “she” is. Funny isn’t it, if he had a blue harnass on I am sure people would recognize him as a male.

      February 28, 2016
  54. Hey Suzanne– the spiralizer looks super. I’ve been seeing them around, but have not gotten one yet. Thanks for the endorsement! And Percy. What a sweet face! So glad to see how much you are enjoying him and taking such care of him! xox

    February 28, 2016
    • Thanks Rhonda. The spiralizer is fun and I am eating more vegetables and cutting carbs so it’s a good thing!! Percy is a real sweetheart ❤️

      February 28, 2016
  55. Thanks for the Percy update. It is such fun to see pictures of him!

    February 28, 2016
  56. I’ve never thought about a spiralizer, it looks like a great idea! Percy looks like such a lovely cutie, and he’s lucky you look after him so well 🙂

    February 29, 2016
    • Thank you so much Sofia, I have used the spiralizer multiple times now but only on zucchini, I need to try it on other vegetables as well. Percy is a doll.

  57. I’m so happy Percy is doing well with the transition! It sounds like he is having the time of his life. The picture of him in the stroller is adorable. I bought a spiralizer and haven’t used it yet. Did you cook the zucchini noodles? I have been wanting to research recipes but haven’t yet. Yours looks wonderful!

    • Hi Shari, Percy is doing really well, he is a real sweet boy. Yes, cook the zucchini noodles but just barely, Really it’s more like warming them. I put a little olive oil in a fry pan on medium heat and cook the noodles for about 5 minutes turning with tongs frequently. They warm and soften a little, then I add the sauce and cook for maybe another minute or two. Thats it. I used oven roasted tomatoes for the dish pictured above Thanks so much.
