Halloween In Clinton Hill

I had to snap fast because it was getting dark, I forget how quickly it turns dark now. This year the turn out was HUGE, there were thousands and thousands of people out on the streets. It was a beautiful evening, not too cool, just perfect really. Had a lot of fun talking to my neighbors.

After I got back I sat on my stoop with candy and there were so many people it was literally gone in 10 minutes. When I first moved here I was lucky if 1 or 2 people stopped by trick or treating. In just a few years it has grown to a Halloween destination.

Some of the photo’s are a bit blurry I was snapping as I was walking trying to beat the darkness but you can get an idea of the scope of this event. It was so much fun, love seeing all my neighbors, everyone and I mean everyone gets into the spirit of Halloween. It’s much bigger than any other holiday and people from all over come here for this, I am constantly amazed just how many people come from outside of the neighborhood just to see and experience Halloween in Clinton Hill. Here are a few photo’s from tonight.

    • Using a flash just never produces a clear or nice photo on the iPhone so I quickly had to take photo’s before the darkness fell. You can see the progression of light and lack of light as I took the shots. Thanks so much Loretta, it was a wonderful evening.

  23. Fun fun fun! That looks amazing. It’s getting similar over here at last. I’ve always loved Hallowe’en since being a kid. Of course, I’m now a big kid. And yesterday was really mild here so there were lots of kids dressed up out with their folks shopping. Felt like a festival.

    November 1, 2015
    • Oh me too, have always loved Halloween. It’s so much fun and my neighborhood really knows how to celebrate. We have a great time. Thank you so much Johnny.

  29. My goodness Suzanne what a crowd!!! It looks like a lot of fun, and a cool place to hang out for sure!! I had to work then made it home in time to hand out candy, I did notice as I drove down my street there was a pre-trick or treat tail gate like party going on with the neighbors, looked like they were all having fun and the kids were getting ready to head out. I had about 30-40 kids, they came in spurts so there was some down time with no kids…not like when I was a kid, I remember there being so many kids out then…but I had a lot of parents dressed up this year with their kids I thought that was fun 🙂

    November 2, 2015
    • Thats a lot of kids, a lot of the parents dressed up here too, I think it’s so much to see. Love my neighborhood especially at Hallowee. Thanks so much Amy!!

  31. I loved looking at your pictures, Suzanne! What a fun night. We ran out of candy, too, but not as fast as you did! Thanks so much for posting this! It’s great to see what goes on in different parts of the country.

  32. Fantastic photos. I had no idea the Halloween was that huge in the U.S. As you say, there were crowds of people, and so many in fancy dress. We do very little here. I’m glad you all enjoyed yourselves and thank you for sharing.

    • It’s pretty big in the US in general but in my neighborhood of Clinton Hill Brooklyn, it’s HUGE. Had a great time thanks Millie.

That’s pretty incredible that you were only getting a few trick o’ treaters a few years ago! There’s so many people! Wow! So what happens when you run out of candy so soon? I always wondered how much candy the people on hugely popular streets need to buy her in LA! They literally have about 100 people going up to their doors at once (scattered all over their lawns)! it’s pretty crazy! Glad you had a good Halloween!

    November 4, 2015
    • When I ran out of candy I turned out the lights and retired to the back of the house and watched some TV. Next year I will buy more candy for sure. Our neighborhood organization designates certain houses on a route for the Halloween walk, my house is not on the route, it’s in a different part of the area. Candy is provided for those houses, Bag after huge bag of candy is given to each house. There are usually well over 3000 children on the actual walk and then there are the others that go door to door to area’s not on the walk. It’s a major undertaking here. It was a lot of fun. Thanks Christina.

  34. So many people, so much fun and thank you for sharing. 😀 )))

  35. HI Suzanne– what a party!! Looks like a lively happy evening all around. (and it looks like such a pretty street of houses!)

    November 4, 2015
    • It was quite the party, lots of fun, lots of people. A great night for all!! Thanks Rhonda.

      November 5, 2015
  36. It does look like a lot of fun! I’ve never experienced anything like that! Memories the kids will always have! My little neighborhood in the twin cities gets fewer and fewer trick or treaters every year, but this year at the folks in a small town in SD, wow! What a turn out! Just like old times!

    November 5, 2015
    • It’s kind of disappointing when you sit there with your treats and the turn out is low. I love the energy of Halloween, it’s exciting and I love seeing the children having a good time. Thank you so much.
