Blender Recommendations Needed

Waring blender

Waring blender

This have been really busy here, taking care of Nando, out of town company, my cousin and her kids are here visiting. This will be short and sweet. My Waring blender which has served me well for many years has finally died. I need a new blender. I am asking for recommendations from you. I have been thinking about a vitamix but not sure I need it, I want it to be powerful and efficient and long lasting. What do you use? Would love to hear from you. There are so many out there, this Waring was a real work horse and lasted 12+ years. Thanks everyone!

Has anyone used or heard of Smeg Blenders? Very cool looking but are they any good?

  1. I’ve got to be honest, I love my Nutribullet, highly and happily recommend it x

    July 25, 2015
    • So glad you said that Elaine, I have been thinking about nutribullet. Thank you!

      July 25, 2015
      • My Mum bought me one a year ago, I’d never even heard of them and had no idea I even needed one…now I wouldn’t be without it! I don’t drink smoothies or juices myself, but I have made super smooth homous in it, and milling nuts and seeds is done in second, making nut butters takes no time at all, and I have made smoothies for me boys and again they are super smooth. I use it for all my sauces and dips. I’m very pleased with it 🙂

        July 25, 2015
      • I was making my morning smoothie this morning which turned out to be a chunky. Great recommendation!

        July 25, 2015
    • Does your nutribullet pulverize raspberry seeds? I love raspberries but hate all of those seeds 🙂

      July 27, 2015
      • I can’t remember I’m afraid, I haven’t used any raspberries in mine for ages, sorry

        July 27, 2015
      • No problem. Thanks anyway for replying 🙂

        July 27, 2015
      • I hate seeds too always strain them out.

        July 27, 2015
      • Which button is that? 😉

        July 27, 2015
      • My pleasure 🙂 I’ll ask my son if he can remember

        July 27, 2015
  2. Hi Suzanne I have two blenders, nutribullet, vitamix either will serve you well. I use one or the other several times a day! Hugs to you and Nando.

    July 25, 2015
    • Thanks Cheryl!

      July 25, 2015
      • Have a good day my friend! You’ll make the right decision. Hugs to u and Nando

        July 25, 2015
      • Hope so and I wanted the recommendation of my friends who cook as often as I do, that means more than anything I read about the product. Your opinion is of great value to me.

        July 25, 2015
  3. We use a Kitchen Aid, have had it for years and its going strong. My husband makes a veggie/fruit/protein smoothie in it each morning and it works great. We also have a nutrabullet. Smaller but very powerful, great for pureeing veggies to make a creamy soup. I have heard Vitamixs are outstanding but never had one. Good luck!

    July 25, 2015
    • I love my kitchen aid stand mixer have 2 of them also love my cuisinart food processor have 2 of them also. I never thought of a kitchen aid blender. Thanks Michelle.

      July 25, 2015
  4. This is so helpful as I have been disappointed by literally every blender I’ve ever owned. Have never been able to muster the strength to buy a vitamix although I hear they’re amazing! Let us know what you get. I love the look of your old one!!
    How is Nando? Xoxo

    July 25, 2015
    • I am the same way, just can’t for some reason get that vitamix. I have been considiering a nutribullet. Just went to Williams Sonoma site and they have vitamix not nutribullet. I love WS, their customer service is unparalleled IMHO, they stand by their products and go way beyond that even to keep customers happy. I really need to know which to get and I need it right away too!!

      July 25, 2015
  5. I don’t do smoothies and I seldom use my cuisinart blender . I use my cuisinart food processor all the time. I’m interested in what you are going to get. Hugs to you and Nando.

    July 25, 2015
    • Love the cuisinart processors use mine all the time too!! Can’t bring myself to throw out the old one I have had for eons, it still works.

      July 25, 2015
  6. Recipe or not, Suzanne I always enjoy your blog. I’m just not a gadget girl, so I don’t have any recommendation. So I’m leaving a friendly hello — and thank you for being a great supportive friend. Hugs! 😀

    July 25, 2015
    • Hi Teagan, always love to see your pretty face pop up with or without a recommendation.

      July 25, 2015
      • I do have one recommendation — an eye exam! LOL. Mega hugs. 😀

        July 25, 2015
      • Please, my eyes are just fine. You and your gorgeous red hair make me smile.

I am using Kitchen Aid and I am happy with it. Although, I am not a heavy duty blender user, I use my Cuisinart food processor more often. But just like you, I am fantasizing about the Vitamix. I haven’t gotten one, because it is kind of difficult to justify the purchase and some other things always jump ahead on my priority list. But if Vitamix will make you happy, you should go for it, I tried it a couple of times when my local Whole Foods had a demo, and they were quite amazing.

    July 25, 2015
    • I have a hard time justifying the price actually of the vitamix. Have HUGE medical bills for Nando so trying to keep cost down. I think Nutribullet is less expensive but still a quality product that basically does the same thing. I use my cuisinart almost daily and love Kitchen Aid products also. Thanks Aleksandra!!

  8. I have a Dualit blender from when I got married. It was on our John Lewis gift list. It’s fantastic. Ross picked it because it even breaks up ice as he is a bit of a cocktail King. I make soups with it, sauces, smoothies, you name it and it will definitely have its work cut out when Alice has solid food. Best wishes. Emma xx

    July 25, 2015
    • I am not sure I have heard of Dualit, I have to check that out. Breaking up ice is a feature I want in my blender. Thanks Emma.

      July 25, 2015
      • You are welcome. I’m pretty sure they sell them internationally. They aren’t cheap but I’ve been married 6 years in August and I’ve never had a problem with mine. Chefs recommend them. They are fantastic and as long as you look after them they should last you forever. Worth every penny in my opinion. Dualit make toasters, kettles etc… Hope this helps. Emma xx

        July 25, 2015
      • Yes I know of their toasters and they are the best. I will look into their blemders. Thank you.

        July 25, 2015
  9. I have Ninja with Auto IQ and LOVE it. It comes with 3 smaller cups so I can do small size blends as well as large. The small ones have a sippy cup top for a smoothie on the go.

    July 25, 2015
    • I make smoothies every morning and love the idea of different size cups. Thanks Susan!

      July 25, 2015
  10. I have a magic bullet and a ninja. They both work fabulous.

    July 25, 2015
    • I have seen Magic bullet at the store, and the ninja also. Thats great, thank you. It’s so hard to decide.

      July 25, 2015
  11. I have an old Cuisinart & a new Vitamix. Vitamix is AMAZING- I use it for EVERYTHING now!! SO easy to clean too- LOVE it!!

    July 25, 2015
    • Vitamix has been on my want list for a while now. I have only used cuisinart food processors, won’t use anything else. Thanks Josette.

      July 25, 2015
  12. Hi Suzanne! I’ve got a Ninja and let me tell you it’s the best blender I’ve ever had…it’s great for ‘big’ uses and small as it’s got the attachment to make smoothies and smaller blended items..take a quick look at the link to see it! Happy shopping 🙂

    July 25, 2015
    • Thanks Linda, I have been researching all daÂ¥, looking at the different blenders available, reading reviews and product information. My head is spinning. The Ninja is in my top 5 so far Thank you so much for the link and the blender sounds great. I need one that will do everything from smoothies, frozen drinks (crushing ice) making pureed soups etc..

      July 25, 2015
      • Ok just looked and that looks perfect. Thank you!

        July 25, 2015
      • My pleasure Suzanne! Hope you find the perfect one for you 🙂

        July 25, 2015
  13. We use our Vitamix everyday and I love it. We’ve used it for soups, smoothies, dips, pretty much anything you can think of and it’s always worked great.

    July 25, 2015
    • Vitamix consistently got top reviews. It is a work horse and a good investment. Thanks Natalie.

      July 26, 2015
  14. Hi Suzanne, I have a Magimix blender and food processor and couldn’t rate them high enough! Worth a look! M.xx

    July 25, 2015
    • I have hear of that brand and will have to check it out. Thanks Margot.

      July 26, 2015
  15. oh… I need a blender myself. Unfortunately I can’t help you 😦

    July 26, 2015
    • Thanks Marcela there are some great recommendations here if you decide to buy one.

      July 26, 2015
  16. I’ve only had my Vitamix for 6 months so I can’t vouch for its durability on account of personal experience, but it does look very durable. What I can vouch for is that purees from the Vitamix are smoother than what I’ve ever experienced before. No need to sieve afterwards. Whatever you get, make sure the cogwheels are metal. The blender that came with my Kenwood stand mixer stopped working after having used it only 20 times or so, because the plastic cogwheel was worn already! The Vitamix does have a metal cogwheel that looks very sturdy. PS there is a comparison of high end blenders on Serious Eats that may be of interest.

    July 26, 2015
    • I have friends who have had their vitamix for years I know them to be very durable. I did read the article on Serious Eats. I am not sure if it was that review that mentioned plastic flecks in the food from plastic parts. I heard that the less expensive models have had some issues but overall no review vitamix was at the top. It is the blender I really want, have for a while now. Thanks Stefan.

      July 26, 2015
      • Just get it then 😉 It is expensive though, even more so in Europe.

I have a Breville blender and I love it. I switched few of my kitchen appliances to Breville last year and I have been very pleased with all of them.

They are well built and run like dream machines.

    July 26, 2015
  18. Hey Suzanne
I think it really depends on the amount of things you want to do with the type of blender, I started out years ago with the magic bullet, then went to the Nutri Bullet and for what I was doing it worked. I had seen the Vitamix several times on TV finally after watching QVC presentation, I knew that was what I wanted for sure, because of so many things I could do that worked for me.
I make kale smoothies at least 4-7 days a week, depends on my mood LOL
i love to make sauces and soups, the one I have cooks it to make soup or a sauce ready to serve.
I like getting fresh veggie and pulse them up quickly to add to my pot of soup or I toss in fresh tomatoes, garlic, herbs, a few other things and in 5 minutes I have a fresh tomato soup or I turn it into a tomato sauce for pasta or for pizza.
It really can be endless, what ever you mind can come up with, plus it came with cookbooks.
I will put two links here to QVC. I know you are busy, but today on QVC from 12-3 (In the Kitchen with David) will be on and there will be a presentation with the Vitamix.
yes it is expensive so I am not saying this is cheap, this is an investment…but QVC had what they call easy pays, you can break the total cost down in monthly payments this is how I did and it made it affordable for me at the time.
    So check them out
This is the one I got, only exception is that my container is 64 oz and not 48 oz. But I like this one since it has the variable speed, not just a low and high
    http://www.qvc.com/Vitamix-Creations-GC-48-oz.-13-in-1-Variable-Speed-Blender.product.K41984.html?sc=K41984-&cm_sp=VIEWPOSITION-_-74-_-K41984&catentryImage=http://images.qvc.com/is/image/k/84/k41984.001?$uslarge$

This one has a 64 oz and has two containers, speed is only high and low, but you have a pulse too, and the power on this is just a tiny bit less.

    http://www.qvc.com/Vitamix-Creations-64-oz.-16-in-1-2-Speed-Blender-wDry-Container.product.K40173.html?sc=K40173-&cm_sp=VIEWPOSITION-_-5-_-K40173&catentryImage=http://images.qvc.com/is/image/k/73/k40173.001?$uslarge$

So check out the links, I hope you find the best blender for you that fits your needs!!
Good Luck Suzanne, talk to you soon!!
    Amy 🙂

    July 26, 2015
    • Wow, thanks Amy. Love the one with the 64 oz carafe. Good prices too. Vitamix is my number one choice. I know they are reliable, do everything and it’s the blender I want and have wanted for a while now.

      July 27, 2015
  19. I’m truly sorry to say this, but I love my Vitamix. I can’t tell you how many blenders I’ve been though, even replacing parts along the way. So many, all different brands. I’ve had my vitamix for 5 years, and it’s incredible. It should be – it’s very powerful.

    July 26, 2015
    • Thanks Mimi yes the vitamix is the top of the line when it comes to blenders. Wish they were not so expensive but I know they last for many years.

      July 26, 2015
  20. I have the Ninja, and while I like the blender itself, I’m not overly thrilled with the pitcher and lid. Ninja says they are dishwasher safe, but my pitcher handle has warped. I need to contact them about a replacement. Not sure if I’m an isolated incident, or if this is common with Ninja. Good luck!!

    July 26, 2015
  21. Wow, this brings back memories! I bought one of these (Waring blenders) in my early twenties to make gazpacho soup for a love interest. I could’t afford the Cuisinart so bought this instead. It disappointed me because, it was not a Cuisinart.

    I still have it…somewhere.

    Almost never used.

I now have a Magimix in place of my old Cuisinart (highly recommend for versatility and ease).

I also have a Blendtech (love, love, love). Vitamix is probably more powerful (yet I don’t know) but it is also taller and has more parts (which equals way too fussy for me). I love the Blendtech for it’s ease, height, simplicity and power. Soup – yep, check. Smoothies, yep, check. Flour from any grain, yep, check. Affordable, yep, check!

I recommend a Blendtech but also love my Magic Bullet (which I found at my brother’s vacation home and used to make fun of..whoops, now own one too).

    July 26, 2015
    • I had not thought of Magimix, have to look into that. I do know about Blendtech and it has a good reputation and seems like ti does everything. Thanks so much Stacey, hope your doggies are doing well.

      July 27, 2015
  22. Should also add – Blendtech is a replacement for blender. Magimix, a replacement for Cuisinart. They do not do the same things all the time. I make my pups food but could not process in the Blendtech without over doing. They each have their own uses. I love and use both equally, Magimix and Blendtech.

The revile Boss is a good slightly cheaper alternative to the Vitamix 😉 or if you can get them over there but biochef do a cheaper one and one similar to the boss 😉

    July 27, 2015
    • I have been looking at the Breville, I like their kitchen appliances. I was reading about Hemisphere will check out Boss. Thanks Matt.

      July 27, 2015
  24. I had a cuisinart for a long time and it bit the dust. I do have a nutribullet and breville – like them both. Still trying to decide whether I need a vitamix or not!

    July 27, 2015
  25. Bevi #

I took the plunge and bought a vitamix. Costco sells them at a cheaper price. I admit – I do love it. It’s great for vegetable drinks, with no chunks or fibers in the end result. I hope you and Nando are well. I will be in Bklyn next week and will call you.

    July 27, 2015
    • A friend told me she got her Vitamix at Costco. I don’t have a membership, everything is so big there I could not possibly use it all so don’t really go. It might be worth it to get a membership just to get a Vitamix.

      July 27, 2015
  26. Recipe or not, I’m gonna learn from this posting. I don’t own a blender and am enjoying the comments and recommendations by others. Great post! 🙂

    July 27, 2015
    • Thanks Debbie, I don’t function well without my blender. Love all the recommendations here.
