Act Of Kindness And A Stuffed Apple A Day…
I have been sick with a very bad cold, I still have to work and care for my pugs, but other than that I haven’t been cooking (or cleaning) and I am trying to take it easy in between it all. I had a very busy day yesterday and frankly was feeling pretty bad last night when I got an email from my friend Azita. She is the author of the lovely blog Fig and Quince, she also happens to be my neighbor, living only a few doors down from me, how cool is that? She is awesome and so kind, in the email she asked if I was home because she wanted to bring something to me. It was a terrible weather day, sleet, snow and very cold but Azita braved the elements and brought me some food. I love Persian food, she brought stuffed apples, it’s a savory dish and I think it is probably the same or similar to her recipe for stuffed quince on her blog.
I haven’t tasted them yet because I still don’t have a full sense of taste, I am getting it back a little at a time and hope to be able to eat this delicious dish tomorrow. I wanted to give a shout out to Azita whose thoughtful gift of food really cheered me up.
On top of not feeling well I also had an emergency with my dog, Nando. I have two senior pugs, both are diabetic, I have to adhere to a very strict schedule for feeding and medications, giving both of them insulin injections every day twice a day at the same times every day. I don’t know what happened yesterday, I gave both dogs their insulin and shortly afterward, Nando’s blood sugar plummeted, he collapsed and I had to administer some sugar syrup to raise his blood sugar quickly, he could have gone into a diabetic coma. I was very lucky that he came around and after that he started perking up and rested comfortably for the rest of the night.
Azita’s kindness really made my day and I wanted to acknowledge this. So often we take the small things for granted, but I want her to know how much I appreciate it and how her act of kindness touched me. Thank you Azita, you are wonderful and if you haven’t checked out her lovely blog please visit, you will love it as much as I do not just for the delicious recipes but her writing style and art is amazing.
Hope things get better! But so good to have people who can be there for you!!
Kenley
Thank you so much, feeling better every day!
So sorry you and Nando are a little meh. Sending you soothing, healing, peace, ease and flow! Relax and receive. Blessings! XO
Thank you so much Crystal!
Feel better, Suzanne!
Glad to read that Nando is okay! It must have been a big scare!
It was really scary, I noticed he was acting weird, stumbling, disoriented, I took him out to go to the bathroom and he could barely stand, I brought him in and he collapsed. I was on the phone with a friend and just dropped the phone without hanging up, he was so concerned he ran over here. Nando was unable to stand and was twitching almost like he was having a seizure. When I checked his sugar level with a keto stick it was very very low. It is disconcerting knowing how quickly things can turn and go from normal to dire on a dime, Thanks Stefano, yes I am very glad he is ok now but what a scare.
Dear Suzanne! Oh. My! It was nothing — just a small gesture of friendship and Norooz but I’m so happy that it made you happy. Thank you for the glorious shout-out (wow!). Get well soon. Happy Spring!
But it was something, thank you for brightening my day!
Do you two eat together often? I would be so happy to know another cook!!! Especially who’s a neighbor!
What a lovely post! Poor Nando – I hope he is doing better! I hope you feel better soon too, but so lovely of you to acknowledge another’s act of kindness. xo
Thank you, I am feeling better and thankfully Nando is doing better today. I am still trying to figure out what happened yesterday, it makes me that much more vigilant now.
So sorry to hear about your terrible cold and also Nando – poor things 😦 How lovely to have such good neighbour and friend though. I hope you can enjoy the stuffed apples very soon …
Thanks yes, tomorrow I am going to heat them up. I can’t wait. I want full sense of taste to try them, My poor Nando, it is so hard dealing with the diabetes and he has one of the worst cases the vet has seen. He is doing alright now, thank goodness. Thanks so much.
So sorry to hear you and your dog aren’t feeling too well, but I hope you are both doing better soon. And I’m now very intrigued by a savory stuffed apple.
Thank you, I love using fruit in savory dishes and this also has me intrigued. I am such a huge fan of Persian food I can’t wait to try it,
Thanks also for expressing concern for my Nando, he is doing much better today.
I hope you and Nando feel better soon!
Thank you so much, he is doing better today!
-It is ‘Spring’, a New Day tomorrow, Sweet Suzanne! I hope you and Nando are completely over it by tomorrow.
-Azita is a gem, and so are you. How lovely for you both to be close to each other and to be interacting.
Thank you very much, I feel so lucky to have Azita as my neighbor, we do get together but not as often as I would like. We see each other often though. I too hope tomorrow we will both be better. Norooz is a new beginning and thats what I am looking forward too.
I hope you get better soon 🙂
Thanks so much, feeling much better.
Suzanne, Get Well Wishes to you and Nando, and it’s great to have a wonderful neighbor feeding your mind, body and spirit!
Thanks so much Linda, everyday is a little better.
Oh Suzanne I’m so sorry to hear how ill you have been and your poor doggie Nando! I’m so glad to hear your dog is okay. What a great friend and neighbor you have. Please rest and hope you are better soon!!

Thanks Jasline, yes Nando is doing better, I figured out what caused the problem. I am feeling better also,
I’m glad you both are! 🙂
Hope you are both feeling better!
Thank you, yes we are both doing better.
Azita helped with the fundraiser Veronica had for me also. She was so great, as were you! I didn’t know you two were neighbors…that is so cool! That is really nice that she brought you food too. I didn’t know your dogs were diabetic, I’m sorry to hear that but, I know they have the best Mama!! I hope you feel better soon…all of you!! xoxo
Thanks Suzie, yes, it’s so cool that Azita is my neighbor she is very nice and so kind. I really appreciated the food she brought. Izzy was just diagnosed with diabetes a little over a month ago. Luckily I had some experience with diabetes since Nando has it and I have been dealing with it for 4 years. Even with that it’s never easy. Thanks so much.
Sorry to hear about you and Nando! Hope you are beginning to feel better. Azita is a sweetheart! I wish I had the two of you as my neighbors! The stuffed apples look delicious 🙂
Thanks Judy, we are both doing better now. It’s great having such nice neighbors/friends. I can’t wait to try the apples, today is the day!!
I hope you feel better soon, Suzanne. So nice of your neighbor to come over and bring you food. Sure, it is a small gesture but the care and the kindness behind it is priceless.
Thank you Francesca, yes dong much better today. You are so right, the kindness is priceless!!

I will take those good vibes, thank you so much!
I love that blend of frut and savory… hope your pets are better!
It was delicious, thank you so much.
Oh, dear! When it rains, it pours! Hope you are both doing better today! Bad weather just makes everything worse, too! What a lovely neighbor/friend you have! I checked out her blog too-amazing!! I’m impressed! Feel better soon!! CC
Thanks, my cold is getting better and I found out why Nando’s BS dropped and am working to re-regulate him so all is much better right now, thank you so much.
What a day you had. I did feel for over your little pug, we worry so much about them. It was so kind that someone did something special for you. Hope you are both in good health soon.
Ohhhhh Nando !! 😦 I hope everything is alright now in your home ! And hope you’re not sick any more ! Well, let’s talk about this delicious Persian stuffed apple ! I love it ! I always eat them when I spend a meal at my bf’s house ! Oh and there’s the Persian new year this saturday !!!! (no, I’m not happy just because there will be good food…oops :)). Have a nice day dear Suzanne ! Xx
Thank you so much, yes my poor dear Nando has had a rough go of it. I am slowly getting back to normal, still have lingering symptoms but I am so much better. I LOVE Persian food, it’s probably my favorite cuisine, Azita did a beautiful post on her blog about Norooz the customs and meaning of all the items on the table. It’s so interesting, The apples were delicious!!
Ohhh I will go and have a look ! I’m so curious about the haft sin ! I’m documenting myself not to be stupid Saturday for my first norooz haha ! So happy you feel better ! 🙂
Azita is a sweetheart. That is so kind of her and so cool she lives close to you! She has a lovely blog. I am sorry to hear about your pug 😦 That is scary but I am glad everything turned out. Feel better soon! It is so awful being under the weather.
Thank you, she sure is and I am lucky to have such a wonderful friend and neighbor. Nando is doing better, but it was very scary.
You have such a nice, thoughtful neighbor! What an awful scare with your pug! Get well soon!!
Thank you so much, we are both getting better every day!
Hope your feeling better! This sounds yummy! 🙂
Thanks Tamara!
Oh and dogs are the best! I love my 3 doggies 2 labradoodles and a min pin! They give so much unconditional love!
Aren’t they, I love my pugs! Labradoodles are adorable and so are min pin,s you should post a pic, would love to see them!
I’m horribly behind on my favorite blogs, so forgive me! I’m so sorry you’ve not been well. I had a bad cold a couple of months ago, and I wasn’t sure I was ever going to kick it. I really hope yours doesn’t last that long, and hope you’re feeling better soon. There’s just nothing worse than having to drag yourself through all the things you have to do when you feel like roadkill. How is Nando feeling now?? How frightening. Thank goodness you were there!! Get well, my friend. I wish I could send you some of my chicken and rice soup.
Thanks Susan, yes life goes on even when you are sick. I am feeling better but this cold is sticking and won’t seem to completely go away. Frustrating. Nando is doing well, turns out it was his supplement for blood sugar support, I have had to reduce his inslulin tremendously, that stuff really works. I too wish I could get a bowl of that soup, I have some stock though and will make it!
I hope you are feeling better soon! Usually when something bad happens another one follows!
Oh wow, well something did follow that one, it’s true. Thank you. I am feeling better and so is Nando.
This is such a sweet post. I’m so thankful for my friends that see me through hard times too. I hope you start feeling better! Your care of these pugs….well it makes me want to just hug you. And them. People who love dogs are my favorite people in the world!
Thank you, I am so much better as are the pugs. I totally agree, people that love dogs or animals in general are my favorite people. We all got your virtual hug!!
What a nice friend and neighbor that you’ve got. I’ve never had a savory stuffed apple before and that looks delicious. Take care and hope you’ll feel better soon.
Thank you Amy, I also had never had savory stuffed apples before and it’s delicious, it’s important I think to use a tart apple like granny smith, or quince like in Azita’s other recipe. I am feeling much better thank you again.
I have to pipe in and say that Suzanne is my very first blogger friend who I got to met in real life as well. She is one of the nicest people I know and helped me find my apartment which if you know anything about living in NY you then know is quite a favor! Her generosity inspires the same!
I’m so sorry to hear you were sick, Suzanne, and I’m very glad you have such a wonderful friend and neighbor to bring you this marvelous dish. I, too, love Persian food and I’m sure this must have been quite a treat to taste. I hope you and Nando are both doing better! Be well and hugs to you.
Thank you so much Hannah, Nando and I are doing much better now, hugs to you and the family and Happy Holidays.
