Thanksgiving

Every year I make the same meal for Thanksgiving, there is little to no variations year to year because everyone loves it that way. It makes things easier sort of, the only planning involves the shopping and of course the preparation. I try to make as much in advance as possible to save myself work on the big day. This will be Percy’s first Thanksgiving with me and I plan on giving him a plate of food along with the rest of my guests. I am excited that this year my two cousins will be joining me as well. My menu is very basic, nothing fancy but everything is homemade and has withstood the test of time. The dishes on the menu are linked to former posts so that you can see the recipes. Mashed potatoes, well, no recipe required, so my potatoes have not lumps I use the food mill and then simply add sour cream, butter and salt and pepper, thats all, the same goes for the pumpkin pie, I used canned pumpkin and follow the instructions on the back of the can, I’ve tried other methods and quite honestly the results are so similar it’s not worth the extra effort. The meal is always served with wine, this year a Cabernet Sauvignon, Lambrusco, Sparkling blanc de blanc and I am still undecided on whether to serve a Chardonnay or white bordeaux.

    November 20, 2016
    • One year I made some changes and it was not well received, it wasn’t eaten, so after that I stuck to the same menu, no changes it works best. Thank you so much Juliana.

  23. Happy Thanksgiving Suzanne and Percy! So what special plate does Mr. P get?

    November 20, 2016
    • Happy thanksgiving Kathryn, Percy will get some turkey, vegetables and mashed potatoes with a spoon of gravy. No dressing it has onion in it and only the leg meat that didn’t get slathered with compound butter. I think he will like it!!❤️

      November 20, 2016
  24. Sounds like a lovely menu Suzanne! I love the simplicity of having the same menu each year. There’s something comforting about the tradition and I agree, it makes planning much easier!

    November 21, 2016
  28. Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving! We stick with the usual, tried and tested and loved menu as well. I will be serving Toes a little turkey plate this year as last year was her first Thanksgiving with us but we were traveling… so time to spoil her this year! 🙂

    • Hi Pamela, you know when it isn’t broke don’t fix it, thats what I say. Tried and true recipes are the best. I know you will have a fantastic meal and isn’t it great watching our little fur babies enjoy the feast we prepared. Happy Thanksgiving my friend.

  29. Awe those look so good!! This is my first year attempting to cook a turkey and make croissants. I think it is safe to say I am slightly worried about the results.

    • Carlee, thank you for stopping by. I am sure you will do fine, I remember my first turkey, LOL, suffice it to say I didn’t have the advantage of the blog or the help that is available now. You are making croissants, wow, I’ve never tried making them, they are on my bucket list though. I hope your meal is amazing and I wish you a very Happy Thankgsgiving. I will check out your blog.

  30. Stunning as always! I would love to eat your Thanksgiving. I know I reached out a while back about writing a food/wine pairing article together. Time simply got away from me this year. I would love to plan ahead and do it next year. You are such an amazing chef. Happy Thanksgiving Suzanne!

    November 21, 2016
    • Thanks Michelle yes next year, I was so busy it worked out because I am stretched in so many directions right now, Happy Thanksgiving

      November 21, 2016
  31. I love your menu and we do the same thing here. Same food, same dishes & silverware, and same desserts. Although I usually toss in a new dessert & maybe a new side every year and see if it sticks, I only do that because I’m already making the same ones, too. It would not do to make a substitution, but an addition I can get by with! I disagree on the pie, but then that’s probably just me, lol! I hope you have a blast with your cousins, and I vote on the Bordeaux!

    November 21, 2016
  32. Your roast looks fabulous!!! Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂

    November 22, 2016
  33. You’ve included all my favorites. Happy Thanksgiving, Suzanne.

    November 22, 2016
  34. Lucky Percy! I bet he can’t wait. I’m certainly salivating reading your menu. I’m not too keen on pumpkin pie, but your pecan pie looks absolutely to die for. I would go for the white Bordeaux (but then I would 😉 )- it’ll will be crisper, although I love Chardonnay too…

    November 22, 2016
  35. Beautiful, Suzanne! I love a traditional Thanksgiving menu and yours sounds delicious. I especially love the photos of your pies! Happy Thanksgiving! xox

    November 22, 2016
  36. Love this menu – we are very much on the same page – and agreed, mashed potatoes are best with the simplest of ingredients. Yummmmmm. 🙂 Have a happy Thanksgiving!

    November 22, 2016
  37. Every thing sounds great, …but those pies…! Wow! They look wonderful!

    November 22, 2016
  38. I really enjoyed this post. I did get to have Thanksgiving with an American friend who lived in Wimbledon a few years ago. The pumpkin pie was delicious and I really enjoyed the whole experience. She’s from Philadelphia and her mum makes her own pumpkin butter every year which is supposed to be a real treat. Have a good week. Emma xx

  41. Yum! Happy Thanksgiving!

    November 24, 2016
  42. Whoa those pies Suzanne!! I’m sure all your friends were thankful to be around your table. We cook pretty much the same each Thanksgiving as well– it’s the nostalgia factor that makes it so delicious. — Except this year we had Rice wrapper shrimp spring rolls along with our stuffing and turkey- brought by our son-in-laws Chinese aunt! I’m sure your meal was wonderful Suzanne! fun to see you menu… hugs!

  43. Belated Happy Thanksgiving Suzanne. I am eyeballing that pumpkin pie of yours – it’s the silkiest, most beautiful looking pie ever. And the apple pie is gorgeous too. Your guests are SO lucky! And Percy too. xo
