Looking For Inspiration And Sorry No Recipes…….
When I want inspiration I go no further than the neighborhood I live in. Walking around and talking to people, looking at the shops and restaurants, visiting the farmers market on a Saturday morning all serve as a source of inspiration for me. Every morning I walk Percy and we are out for an hour and a half to two hours. It’s a long slow walk and has become a morning ritual. He decides which way to go and we never go the same way 2 days in a row. It’s hysterical.
This week is going to be very busy, I wanted to give you all a little something, sorry no recipes or cooking I simply have too much going on. Today and tomorrow I am prepping for a big community meeting which will take place tomorrow evening and then again on Thursday evening. On Saturday I was chosen by Air bnb to hold the banner at the finish line of the Brooklyn Half Marathon, and then on Sunday my friend and I are taking our dogs to Bark Fest. In between I am working at my real job, hosting air bnb guests that are staying with me and then there is the stuff that we all do daily, shopping, cleaning etc…
It has been pretty crazy around here, lots going on in the neighborhood, we are fighting the DOT regarding sweeping and ridiculous changes they want to make to the beautiful streets in our neighborhood which will result in major traffic nighmares on my block. We organized a town hall meeting at a local church last Thursday to prepare for the community board meeting this Tuesday. We are getting letters, petitions, affidavits whatever we can but fighting city hall is hard especially with the current administration. We had about 200 people come to the meeting, it was standing room only. I spent the better part of Sunday working with my neighbors to put together notebooks with petitions, letters from the community and other information to hand out to our electeds and community board. Tomorrow, Tuesday is the big meeting and it should be rowdy and loud and contentious. This is going on all over the city and is a hotly contested issue, even Woody Allen has gotten involved.
I went to the farmers market this morning and inspiration fell flat, sort of. I really hoped to see stands full of vegetables, fruits, strawberries etc and there was almost nothing there. Some apples left over from the Fall, some vegetables, herbs and flowers in pots.
So I bought some basil since mine has died, some flowers and I found some nice looking cherry tomatoes, asparagus and cucumbers.
I also bought some flowers, geraniums, pansies and others that I thought were pretty. On my way home I stopped at a dear friends house, she is a big time animal lover like me and she told me should bought Percy a gift. She had a little hat custom made on Etsy and I went to pick it up. What a great gift, thank you so much Morrissa.
I was really hoping to be blown away with inspiring stands full of fruit and vegetables that I would use to make something wonderful for Fiesta Friday. Instead of cooking I planted the flowers and put the basil in the same pot as the basil that has a DNR, pretty sad looking.
Percy is totally smiling over his hat! Thanks for the cheering start to Monday. We have a crazy week, too, so as I run fullspeed ahead, I’ll pray for you as I pray for myself! Let’s go! Life is full & we’re livin’ it!
He smiles, Percy actually smiles. It’s the funniest thing and loves to have his picture taken. Yes life is busy, full speed ahead. Have a great week Allison.
Sounds like everything is going great Suzanne! That’s what it’s all about. Enjoy.
Fingers crossed thanks Jule.
Tee-hee!!! Percy looks like he’s blissfully happy in his hat!
Suzanne, this post was a feast for the eyes with all the photos — who needs a recipe with all that? Plus it was fun to go farmer’s marketing with you. Wishing everyone the very best with city hall and the DOT… that’s awful. Mega hugs.
LOL, isn’t he a hoot. Percy is a ham, will pose for photo’s and he actually smiles. It’s a riot. Thanks Teagan, it’s a David and Goliath thing feel like the short kid with the bully holding him at bay and he is swinging at the air. Corruption runs deep here. Very sad but we still fight.
lol – I do love Percy’s hat and his smile!!! Of course also like all the other photos, especially the lilac (miss mine from my UK garden) and that yellow house. Very pretty.
Isn’t he so cute, I have only seen a few dogs that actually smile and Percy is one of them. Thank you so much. I miss my lilac tree as well, it did not do well in the backyard and I donated it to a community garden when now that I think of it I should have put it in front. I love lilacs!!
Beautiful flowers and i loved that house view.
Such a beautiful street, especially the blooming lilac . Good luck with your DOT meeting, it’s good your getting involved. Percy is such an happy dog. Mega hugs and good luck!
Thanks so much Gerlinde. I am nervous about the outcome of the whole thing but we shall see.
Percy looks so cute and happy in his hat! Your neighbour looks lovely and hope you win your fight to keep it that way.
Thank you so much, we hope the city will see the plan for what it is, a bad idea.
Awww…Mr. “Percy” looks so handsome-what a Pug! Well…I admire your determination to rally against proposed changes to your neighborhood Suzanne. YOU can fight City Hall. The Streets, Avenues , Blvds. are just lovely this time of year! We all get so busy with life I rarely mention half of what I do because somehow I manage to get ‘er done!!! I do have help with major housekeeping, running the children around to and from school and music, gymnastics and a host of activities. Life is good and that is all that matters! Be well my dear friend. Cheryl xx
Thanks Cheryl I know you are like a whirlwind, I honestly don’t know how you do it all. Thank you so much fingers crossed for the meeting tomorrow.
Surely will my friend. xx
Beautiful Spring pics, Suzanne! Love Percy’s hat. 🙂
Thank you so much Nancy
Mr Percy is an happy dog, and you are so happy too, among spring flowers, and all this beauty.
I wish you a marvellous week, seeing plants growing, etc 🙂 amitiés de france
Thank you so much France and to you as well, a wonderful week.
Thanks to you and the cutest little travel companion for sharing your inspiring walk. 😀 I love Percy’s hat!
Thanks so much Mary, Percy is a trip. Such a little sweetheart.
It must be that time of year when we are all racing together. Liked the images of your neighborhood, that house is just darling! The pots look all prettied up and Percy is definitely in charge by the looks of it. Enjoy it all Suzanne.
Thanks Loretta, yep Percy calls the shots when it comes to walking. He has definite idea’s of which way he wants to go every single day. LOL, he is really something.
Suzanne, I enjoyed your post and reading all about your ventures with Percy. Oh he looks so handsome in his cap !!! Your flowers are gorgeous 🙂 I hope your basil thrives, it is such a lovely herb to have. I know your week is busy, but have a good one. x
Thanks Lynne, yes it’s a terribly busy week. The basil is not doing well but just saw flowers on my tomato plants, I was almost giddy. LOL. Thanks so much and have a great week.
I hope you will check out my blog with my pug, Iago’s picture. Very charming area…reminds me of Philadelphia. We just went to the nurseries today to pant outside the front and discovered one of the owners lives two blocks away and I pass his wife while walking the pug.
I did and saw Lago, what a cutie pe. Thank you so much. I love seeing the flowers bloom, it’s such a beautiful time of year. Good luck with your planting and will look for more photos of Lago.
Percy is looking good in his new cap. Beautiful pictures of the flowers [love flowers].This time of year flowers is all that is available I have to wait until mid June for fresh produce to hit the market.Maybe a fantastic recipe next time 🙂
Thank you Dyanna. Flowers we have produce nope, not yet. I don’t think we will see berries until June this year. Then it seems like summer is almost over. Egad. Thanks so much, Flowers make me happy!!
Such a lovely post, so much going on in your life and your lovely neighbourhood 🙂 have a great week xx
Thanks so much Elaine have a great week.
Truly beautiful neighborhood. I love that I can now see it in my mind. I really wish we were neighbors! Hugs!
Thanks so much Michelle, now you know whereof I speak having seen it for yourself. Thank you !!
I feel like I just strolled through your neighborhood with you, Suzanne. I’m sorry the farmers market fell flat- last fall’s apples this time of year always make me glum. Here’s hoping spring heads north soon. I got my first strawberries last week and imagine y’all are just a couple weeks behind. Kisses to sweet Percy and big hugs to you! xo
I think by the first week of June we will see strawberries. Thanks Em, gave Percy a big hug and kiss from you.
Your post has reminded me of the Sesame Street song line ‘Who are the people in your neighbourhood?’ Felt like I was there, strolling around with you. Good luck with the meeting and what a handsome wee chappie Percy is in that cap.
Thanks Lisa, yes I felt like I was giving a little tour of the area. LOL, Percy is dapper and handsome in his cap. Thank you again.
You live in such a beautiful neighborhood, Suzanne! I loved seeing all the pictures. Percy’s hat is so cute! You must get a lot of comments about it on your walks. Thanks for sharing what is going on in your life. Best wishes on good results from the meeting.
Thanks Shari, yes I love my neighborhood, it’s beautiful, my neighbors are great. It’s all good. Now if only we could keep the government from mucking things up.
Loved living “a day in the life of Suzanne!” You are so good to work with your neighbors and community to rally support for your cause. That takes a lot of time, planning, research and energy! Hopefully, the walks with Percy (how awesome is his smile!?! He is beaming in that hat) and visits to the farmers market provide good distraction. Your neighborhood is beautiful and worth fighting for… good luck!
Thanks so much, fight we will. Would be great to win one.
What a lovely tour of your neighborhood Suzanne and that little house is so charming. All the best with City Hall 🙂
Thanks so much Marisa. I love that little house, it’s always been one of my favorites. So quaint and charming.
Your neighborhood is lovely. I can see how it can fill you inspiration. Percy’s new hat is adorable. I hope you and your neighbors win the battle with DOT.
Thank you so much Sharon. He looks just adorable in his little hat!! We hope we win also.
Your neighbourhood is beautiful Suzanne, it would be a pitty to see its charm altered by bad regulations. Hope you win this one. Percy is so adorable in the hat!
It would be a terrible shame but the bigger picture is the health and safety hazards that this change will bring. Lets hope we can be successful. Thanks so much.
Reading through comments Suzanne–looks like Percy has become the star of your blog!! Hoping all goes well this week at those important meetings–it sounds like you have awesome support. Just hope the administration pays attention! And I absolutely love seeing your neighborhood!! so so beautiful! It would be so fun to have more walking down the street posts for all of us people stuck in little plain suburbs!! anyway, I loved your foodless post! I’m sure you’ll be back with something yummy before too long, if I know you! Good luck! xox
Thanks Rhonda, I have been so so busy preparing for the meeting, which was last night. So many people came they have to have another meeting on Thursday but one thing I know is even though the sentiment against the proposal is high the corrupt administration does what it wants. It’s a dirty business politics.
Well done Suzanne. Hoping and praying the city listens to the voice of reason– so glad there was so much turn out and support! Would you let us know how Thursday goes?… You are amazing.
Always great to see photos and read about what’s happening in your neighbourhood Suzanne… hope that the meetings go well and you get the results you’re after.
Thanks so much Margot. I am going to do a short post about the meeting another day, we have another meeting Thursday with spillover from the last.
I had a similar experience at our farmer’s market although I did buy a wonderful basket of heirloom tomatoes. Enjoyed the photos of your neighborhood, it’s lovely.
Yes it’s so disappointing and you know what would be helpful is to have someone report about what is at the market so you can decide whether it’s worth the trip. Thanks so much Karen.
That is a great idea!
Good luck with the city hall meeting, and glad you at least found a few nice pieces at the farmer’s market. Basil is very important!
Thanks Mary Frances, fighting city hall is tiresome and frustrating. I know that in your part of the city there is a huge push to scale down construction, I belong to New Yorkers for a Human Scale which is based out of Tribeca.
The cukes and tomatoes were good but I had my heart set on berries. Maybe in a few weeks. Have a great day.
Hi Suzanne, just got back from camping. Sorry the farmer’s market was somewhat of a bust. But you know what?? You have that adorable Percy. I wish you the best with the meeting, that does not sound like fun at all. xoxoxo
It was no fun thanks Kathryn. have to do it all over on Thursday. Contentious, screaming, nasty and the prep work we did putting together over 20 binders to send to politicians and communtiy board with petitions (over 1400 signatures) letters, exhibits. We worked tirelessly and hope that we may be successful but it’s hard to know.
Ohhh Perc! You are adorable. And, in your swish new hat you will sort the neighbourhood in no time.
Thank you Heather, he is quite dashing in his little hat!!
Suzanne, I feel admire that you get on really well with your neighbourhoods. Same as my area, the street that we’re living, our neighbours live there almost 30 years already. Also, Percy is so cute. Wish your weekend will be fun! 🙂
Thanks Mochi, yes our neighborhood has history. My next door neighbor has lived in her house over 50 years. Have a wonderful weekend and hope you are doing well.
I love Percy in that hat! It sound like you both have wonderful walks, and how great to have a farmer’s market with such lovely flowers and produce so close. Have a great rest of your week Suzanne 😀
You too Antonia, thank you so much.
Percy looks adorable and I love seeing around your neighborhood! That house is so pretty Suzanne! A wonderful post!
Thank you so much Lynn, love that little woodframe house.
I loved having this little tour with you!
Somehow, I am not getting your posts on my reader. It has been very busy at my house too but I kept thinking that I am missing reading your wonderful posts. So here I am and so glad I came! I enjoy morning walks through neighborhoods especially in the spring season when everything is blooming and the houses are always my favorite. Thoroughly enjoyed your pictures of the flowers and that gorgeous house!
Percy looks adorable in that hat!
Thank you, it happens to me all the time. Somehow I think wordpress just knocks me off of some blog lists. Weird right. Thank you so much.
You have such a beautiful neighborhood to walk in! Thanks for sharing your photos–I love Percy’s hat! 🙂
Thanks so much Nancy, I am partial to it, LOL .
It feels like I’m walking around the neighborhood, I’m still so surprised we haven’t run into each other yet! One day… I hope!
I often see someone that resembles you and I wonder if it is you, maybe one day we will actually see each other. Hope so would love to meet!!
What a beautiful walk you must have had and good luck on the basil! We just planted our little garden (at my folks) with herbs, 10 tomato plants (there are sooo many kinds now!) and a habanero. We have a little more space and may put something else in. Percy’s hat is the greatest!! Love it!!
My basil is not doing good at all, not sure why I have problems with it every year. 4 plants are dead I have two new ones that don’t seem to be growing at all. UGH… Thanks so much Mollie.
Try a new pot or sterilize the pot it was in and new soil = if in a garden, put it in a different area. Here’s link for you! I can’t live without basil, although that might be a bit of an overdramitization! http://www.growthis.com/common-problems-when-growing-basil/
Maybe I will transplant to a clean pot with new soil. I have them in a HUGE pot I was hoping for lots and lots of basil. Thanks for the link I will read it.
Lovely photos.. spring does make everything so lively! Looks like Percy is enjoying wearing his cap sooo much! 🙂
Thank you so much, well I’ll put it this way, he tolerated wearing the hat. He was much happier when I took it off but he is such a ham he loves having his photo taken. I always tell him what a handsome boy he is.
Percy loved his cool green hat a lot, I see. Your neighborhood is looking great & lovely. I hope that that big traffic won’t pass alongside your door. xxx I also get inspired by beautiful things, like markets, people, places,…nature,…
Thank you, Percy is such a ham, when I put something on him and tell him how handsome he looks he will sit still and pose with a big smile.
And pleople,..like you! 🙂
And you!! Thank you.
