Bread, Butter, Radishes For Fiesta Friday #58
This is so simple, no recipe required all you need is good bread, butter, radishes, sea salt and honey. I wanted to bring something to the party that just screamed Spring, I am still digging out from yesterdays snow storm and am a bit tired of the heavy food that is prevalent in winter. I got some beautiful watermelon radishes from Farmigo, the CSA I use, I also have some of their hand churned butter and a loaf of my homemade sour dough bread. This is so simple it’s almost stupid but take a slice of bread, slather with a lot of butter, add some sliced radishes, sprinkle with sea salt and drizzle some honey on it, Enjoy!!!

Slice some bread
A watermelon radish, it’s really big and so pretty!!
Some good butter:
Peel and slice the radish, place on top of your bread and butter, sprinkle with some sea salt and drizzle with some honey.
These radishes are stunning – so photogenic! I’ve never heard of watermelon radishes – are they as strong-tasting as small ones. I love the idea of combining with honey too – lovely!
Watermelon radishes are very mild which is why I love them so much, a little bit of a bite but subtle. They are wonderful with the butter and honey. Thank you so much.

It’s so simple Amy I felt a bit stupid but it’s a delicious treat. I don’t see watermelon radishes that often around here but when it was listed at Farmigo I grabbed 2 of them. They are also wonderful roasted. Thank you so much.
I just made it the other day and we could not have enough. It was refreshing after all these winter foods. Oftentimes, the simplest things are the best! (And, I so crave that fresh farm butter.)
Their butter is so good. I hoard it which is a good thing because I haven’t seen it in a while on their list of available products. It really is refreshing eating something like this rather than the heavy stews and soups. Thanks Aleksandra!

Suzanne – those watermelon radishes are gorgeous! I didn’t even know they existed – thank you for this! Just this morning a coworker and I were talking about simple bread and butter sandwiches when we were growing up – and simple sometimes is best – as demonstrated by these!

I remember been in one of the restaurants, where one of the appetizers in buffet was served as a bowl of butter, fresh young radishes and sea salt. Perfect. Spring, we are ready for you!

This is beautiful and definitely screams spring! I grew up on radishes with butter, but i’ve never thought to include honey. I’ll try it! What’s that wooden tool?
I also ate that growing up, my Mom used to like it. That is a honey spoon, bought it from Michael at Michaels woodcraft. Love it!!! Thanks Mimi.

You have nailed the spring with this post. I have never way end radish with bread and butter let alone an elephant Raddish! Is it peppery or sweet or salty?

Those radishes literally screamed Spring for me. Watermelon radishes are huge, much much bigger than the smaller red variety. They are milder when they are large the one I used the smaller they are the more peppery they are. This one had a bit of a bite but extremely sublte. It had almost a sweet flavor that was so delicious with the butter, was thinking it would make an excellent chutney.
I bet! Chutney sounds good ☺️
Now that is something I would not have thought of in a million years… Radishes on bread. But it does sound fresh and delicious. Kudos Suzanne! 😀 Hugs to you and Nando.

Wow! Watermelon radishes?? I’ve never heard of them and they look so interesting, the whole dish looks great! I hope there has been some let up in the snow today?

These beautiful radishes are really getting popular. I love them because they have less of a bite than some of the other ones. I’ve never thought to combine them with honey and I am so envious that you get such a fresh butter!

Those radishes are popular and readily available here in Florida. I love to slice thin, use an English Cucumber (sliced thin) and make a small lunch salad adding in with scallions, sea salt, lemon vinaigrette, dunk crusty bread and I am one Happy Camper! It’s a party in your mouth! A watermelon Radish Crostini! Nice job Suzanne. Glad to hear weather temps. will go up! I can see the snow melting and bicycles jamming the sidewalks now. I don’t know that’s called ‘watermelon radish’. It’s just called radish in England. I haven’t tried it before, strange, eh? But now, I will have a try since I saw this post. Thanks for it! 🙂
There are several different types of radish that I have seen here in the US, these are the mildest, almost fruity, a little peppery but not overt. Thanks so much Mochi!

I’m not either, watermelon are a whole different taste. Not sharp, only the slightest bite, almost indistinguishable. They are almost like a crisp fruit. Thanks Liz

Thank you, you might eat this bread. It’s not overtly sour if that is what is the offensive flavor. It is oh so subtle. Really delicious bread. Of course this can and should be enjoyed on whatever bread is your choice.

It’s funny as we inch into Spring you are doing the same with Fall/Winter. For a brief time we may experience similar temps because it actually can be quite cool here through May.
This is the first year that I have seen watermelon radishes in my life. They are gorgeous. I almost threw them out because I thought they were turnips in my CSA basket. It turn a out that the Queen Anne turnips were pretty pink globes and the radishes were bland white until you cut them. Beautiful.

I’ve never been a big fan of radishes because they’re a little too strong for me, but now knowing the watermelon radish is milder, I may have to give this a try. It looks absolutely stunning!
