Thanks Liz, so happy to have met you and look forward to more from you.
What a darling post! I thought about you and your Izzy, and i figured Nando would be spoiled – and I see that was the case, from the next post! ๐ Gibson, I figured out later, had gotten little special treats from everyone, through out the day, despite my best efforts he get only a little turkey, and that in his bowl!! ๐ He was up during the night to go “out.”
So sorry Gibson had a little too much holiday fare. Everyone knows that Nando cannot be fed and for the most part everyone complies. One year though I had a friend who decided they would feed Nando, gave him sweet glazed ham, dessert. He ended up in the Emergency room, almost died. I am so careful because of the diabetes. Nando is spoiled but only with love, food not so much. He gets fed like clockwork, he does get treats healthy ones. Hope you had a really great Thanksgiving feast.
Oh my – you must have been distraught. I’ve been hearing more and more stories of dogs/cats with diabetes. Gibs has had some liver issues, so it’s low fat – or supposed to be. I was not happy…but then it’s not nearly as critical as Nando’s issue, especially so, I’m guessing with a little pup even a bit can skew things a lot with blood sugar.
My biggest concern is that Gibs is large enough to “Counter Cruise” and for an old guy can move pretty quickly – when food is involved! Luckily no incidents this year, but I have to always be watching that no one puts anything within reach and leaves it. Our old dog got the turkey one year as it was resting!
I was not just distraught I was also very upset and angry, I announced to everyone that no one was to feed Nando anything. She was there and heard me but proceeded to do it anyway.
Yes when there are liver issues low fat is the way to go. Izzy had terrible issues with her liver after she developed diabetes and was on a no fat diet and even took this supplement called Mega lipotropic that the doctor prescribed to help metabolize fat. I need it to I think. Hope your Gibson stays healthy and strong.
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving my friend ๐
Cheers
