A Pi Day Surprise
Yesterday was Pi Day, to celebrate Pi we cooks and food lovers take just a little liberty and make it all about Pie. Now I just love pies, fruit pies, cream pies, tarts, galettes, savory tarts and pies. They are all good. I love making pastry crust, I always have frozen pie dough in the freezer in case I need it.
I was busy, lots going on with work. I didn’t check my spam folder as I normally do every day until later in the afternoon and when I did I saw an email from Kate at Food52, she wondered if I would be home today between 1-5PM, they wanted to deliver a surprise. Honestly, I was flabbergasted and intrigued. I love surprises and rarely get one. At 5PM on the dot one of the Food 52 staff hand delivered this pie in this amazing pie box (which I have been meaning to order and now I need to get another one or 2), how cool is that? It made me feel really really good, they thanked me for being a long time member, it made me feel so special. Thank you Food52 for making my day!! Oh and I can’t forget to mention the pie was a salted honey pie, with an amazing flaky buttery crust. SO DELICIOUS!! I ate way too much pie!!
Pi Day Surprise
I also want to update everyone on sweet Percy, he is doing really really good. He was a little under the weather yesterday, I think it was the rain and cool temps but today he is doing great. He is very happy in Brooklyn and has adjusted to his new life, made lots of doggie friends and is getting to know his neighborhood.

I know I really was blown away, for F52 to do such a lovely thing really made me ver klempt. It was so good talking to you yesterday as well. You know, Percy likes a long walk in the morning before he eats and yesterdays nasty weather put a damper on it and he was not happy. Today although not great it was better and we walked for about 45 minutes he came back and ate and even wanted seconds, LOL. We have a routine, the walk, eat, a chewy and then he rests on the day bed, pretty much every day and on Saturdays I try to take him to the park. Yeserday’s surprise gift made my day.
Rolling in the Grass…I watch my dog Sami rolling in the grass there are days I feel like getting down there with her and rolls the hell out of myself…🍀

That’s good stuff! Real good stuff. I could relate highly with this post, as I too love the pie, and lo, I fancy myself also as a grass roller. And I mean that like little Percy is doing…I like to frolic like that, unashamedly. He’s my hero.

Percy is so adorable, he loves the grass, everyday he wants to walk to that spot, it’s the grass in front of the coops on Clinton Ave and Dekalb. The other day this guy had his two pugs there also rolling in the grass. Thank you so much.

Thanks Lynne. I think Mr. Percy is about as comfortable and happy as a doggie can be. My neighborhood is very very dog friendly and just about everyone has a dog or 2 or 3 and Percy has some playmates. Have a great week and thank you again.

I wish I had more grass around me, he loves it so much. It’s kind of a long walk for him to get there. I will have to bring the stroller for him so he can have a roll in the grass often. Thanks so much Kathryn.

What a great surprise Suzanne! Salted honey pie–that sounds incredible. And, er, well-balanced, so it’s fine to eat plenty, right? (I know I would eat way, way too much of it!). Lovely to hear that Percy has all settled in as well. It looks so bright and green over where you are, some lovely weather for a roll in the grass 🙂
We had such a warm winter the grass stayed green, only had 1 real snow storm and temps were so mild. Mr Percy loves the grass, it’s his favorite I don’t think he likes cement or sidewalks. The pie was sweet and the salt balanced it perfectly, Delicious. Thank you so much.
